Ethnocultural Differentials
and Egocentric/Ethnocentric Transcendence
The problem of overcoming ethnocentric and egocentric biases is fundamental to the problem of conducting cross-cultural research in anthropology--both as a priority of research itself, and as a principle barrier to be overcome in the fieldwork.
Meeting the challenge of ethnocultural differentials and achieving ego-centric and ethnocentric transcendence of ethnocultural values through the concept of the Bridge goes beyond the fieldwork challenge by systematically attempting to understand, through ethnocultural research and symbolic framing methods themselves, the basis of ethnocultural differentials themselves, and then of applying these in a coordinated manner to the challenges of egocentrism and ethnocentrism as these affect educational values and the problem of acquisition. Learning to reinterpret experience and to respond in different ways to different experiences is a fundamental aspect of the entire learning process, and constitutes the foundation to opening the intellect to new alternative ways of thinking and being.
