The Day Dawns Darkly

Darkness dawning

 Sunlight waning

Just beyond the distant bump

Of the mountain pass to which I alone race

Surreal and serenely speeding

The hills of the dark horizon

Undulate serpentine

Zig-zagging all around

Sensuous forms laying down

And writhing with the wind

Silhouted against an emerging crimson twilight

And deep dark blue dome

Enshrouding sleepy stars

In a hazy cover of emerging daylight

Silent, still ghosts

Stalk the intermediate zones

Shrouded,  shadowy strangers

Cloaked by the darkness

The hill line of the mounting landscape

Receding in all directions

Encompassing my small world

The promise of a new day

Beckoning just beyond
