Snow Cranes

This pair of white Cranes

Nesting on this lake

Yet frozen over

On this mountain pass

Lonely to the trespass

Of human or animal

Together at the top

of the whole big world

Whose to say this pair

 Does not love each other

Could not love one another

Obvious enough at least

To stick so together

And make them a nest

Where the wind must blow

A harsh resounding

And the winter bites

Deeply to the bone

And what is love then

If it be not found

In this lonely pair

Of beautiful Cranes
