Dreams of Yesterday

I woke up early this morning

A  wanderer in a vast desert

As if from a dream

Not really knowing where I was at

And the dream was a day

As if a whole year

And the year was but a second

And the second an entire lifetime

The dream suddenly ended

Though it seemed forever

Merely remnants of yesterday

But vague fragments of a memory

Soon forgotten and lost

Buried by the shifting tidal sands

The eternal and the ephemeral

Lying side by side

Sleeping together

forever and never

In the same bed

Of sleepy, forgetful death

Of occasion, remembered dreams
