The Day the World Died
We heard it from a friend
That the world had come to an end
It happened one night
On the other side of the world
We didn't believe it at first
We didn't know what to think
We only wanted to go back home
To escape our sense of helplessness
The students came in growing numbers
Meetings were being held
Strange students gathered beneath our doorway
And painted hate slogans on the walls outside
By nightfall we put up the barricades
Over our windows
And double locked the doors
Shouts could be heard
Windows breaking
Stones pelting the walls
All that I had done
All that I worked for
All that I had planned
Had suddenly come to an end
In a single explosion
The world ended that day
And didn't start again
For another week
