Wires
Every
Single
Day
Workers add
Still more new wires
And more wires
The
Wires
All the wires
Multiple wires
Countless and confusing
Running like spaghetti noodles through walls
From behind locked steel doors
Down all the hallways
Interconnecting at strategic nodal points
Then, traveling out to power poles
And then to larger cables
Hanging over the paths
And running out onto the streets
And from the streets running to the center of the City
And from the center of the City to the Provincial Capitol
And from the Provincial Capitol
They run all the way to Beijing
And there they all stop
In one huge bundle of steel, plastic and copper noodles
At the communications room of the Premier of China
In the background of the student's lives
As humble as they all are
These wires are largely invisible
They seem to function somewhat
Like the strings of a marionette
Along the wires
Doubtless pass
Untold secrets
Allowing more control from above
They make the people dance and sing and jest
Entangling the lives of the people
Instructing them when
To laugh and cry
Love and hate
