My True Friend
You come to my door with only smiles
And open arms
And all I can ask is what you really want
Can friendship be so pure
As to have no other reasons
Can casual conversation
And common companionship
Be the only motivations
Can love be so untarnished
And kindness so unblemished
As not to want or need something more
So please tell me what it is you really want
So I do not have to spend another hour
Of my tedious life
My good friend
How far will your friendship go?
Will it cross the seas?
Will it last the years?
Will it weather all the storms?
Will it grow with the passing seasons?
You finally take your leave, and
I close the door back to the solitude
And there is my shadow on the wall
And I recognize my one true friend
Always silent
Always obedient
Always by my side
Forever at peace
