Shakespeare in Class
The class sat silently
Reading their papers
And did not notice
The presence of a strange person
Who spoke in the Queen's English
About maiden's mirth, witch's magic
And the sorrowful wailing of ghosts
Marking the hour
Chanticleer calls outside again
The open window
But the students do not heed
The warning of the crow
For the student
Shakespeare is just a two-dimensional string
Black print on yellow-white paper
To be read aloud
And soon forgotten
Chanticleer calls his hours
And no one harkens
Or smells the flowers
