A Prison within a Prison

Entering China

Is passing through barrier after barrier

Of wall behind wall behind wall

Of brick after brick after brick

It is a prison within a prison within a prison

The solution to any problem

Is to build another wall

To enclose the area in question

Within yet another partition

And thus entering into China

Is a question of passing through barrier

After barrier after barrier

And the deeper one delves

The more entrapped one feels

And the closer to the heart of China one gets

The further from freedom one seems

And you never get to the true heart of China

Because it is kept locked and hidden from view

A secret behind a door, a gate

It is secret in a closet

Behind a pair

Of closed eyes

It lies deep within

The heart of the Chinese people

Exists beneath layer after layer

Of smelly old clothes

Hidden, protected from the dangers of the world

Since birth
