I have been told
The Great Wall is far away
And very old
And to be a true man
One must visit it at least once
In one's lifetime
But I have seen the Great Wall
And I have felt its invisible stones
It runs unseen throughout the land
Across the fields and over the mountains
It runs down the rivers and the many dusty roads
It runs across the gates
And thresholds of every village and city
Into every single home and it reaches into every corner
Of every building of every district
The true Great Wall of China
Was not made of bricks and stone
But of human blood and broken bone
Upon the hearth and forge of an ancient History
Repeating perennially the plagues of time
Rhythmic seasons of unending pain and suffering
The Great Wall of China
Holds back the flood of time
The fever, the hunger, the crime
Of a vast, implacable, turbulent sea beyond its gates
And its source is a but small, small secret spot
Forever waiting patiently in the heart of the people
Where time cannot penetrate
Where history is forgotten
Though it has lasted as long as human memory
As a public edifice of the people
It is in truth an invisible and transparent wall
Yet it is stronger and mightier
Than any stone partition
It is more solid and stubborn
Than any brick construction
