The Grass is Browner
The grass is browner
On the other side
The fence is tall
And the distance wide
We cast about for some place
To plant our hopes and dreams
To water them and watch over them
To tend them daily and help them slowly grow
But the land is owned by the people
And there are no uncrowded spaces
To put down your seeds
Whatever you plant
And manage to grow
Will not be your own
It will be consumed
By all the many people
And the remnants
Discarded
And trampled
Beneath
