The People's Trains
The people's trains
Move silently off on schedule
There is no conductor to shout a warning
North, South, East and West
They come and go
The cars are stuffed full with the many people
More than twice the normal capacity
People stand all the way
Or sleep beneath the seats
And in the aisles
The People's blood courses
Along the many iron rails
Tying the whole grand experiment together
The Officials make their cuts
And I can't but help think of cattle
Being loaded and shipped
In vast quantities
