Invisible Chains

Invisible chains

Constrain the people

Imprison the land

They lace down the streets and paths

And bound the areas like fences

They constrain the people in their every act

Invisible chains hold the people back

But they are chains not just of fear

They are also chains of love

And fear and love intertwine

Of a strange Chinese kind

Of love and hate

Of anger and happiness

To be enchained is to be engulfed in a sea of security

To be cut loose is to be lost in a world of uncertainty

Beneath the Great Wall

There are countless invisible chains
