A Dog Hanging on the Shop Wall

There

Hanging outside

On the shop wall

The front quarters of a large dog

With long-nailed paws attached

We gazed in silent dumbfounded curiosity

And quietly asked the shop owner

What it was

Reluctantly the fashionable young wife smiled

And shyly, softly answered

We took our food, paid and went our way

And I could not help thinking about the dog

While we ate our precious meat
