Waves Crash Upon the World

and clap like thunder upon my mind

angry seas assault

the long thin band of land

in wild, furious tempests

withdrawing, compounding, resounding

constant, continuous and unending

the earth holds on ever-lasting

strongly and steady

unbending with the waves

steadfast against the tides

the world is patient forever

and the ocean perseveres

ideas flash upon my mind

careen and collide

like a dark raging sea

troubled thoughts revolve

round and round

and in swirling turmoil resolve

a carousel of worry and creativity

breaking upon the banks

of conviction and experience

my sense of presence

bouncing back and forth between

my past and future

I fling myself into the raging seas

My body cast like drift wood

Old laundry in the world's washing machine

My soul yet anchored to the beclouded shore

A rock that breaks the angry waves

Wearing but slowly away
