Unfathomable

Are the many ways

 Of a wanton world

The aimless directions

Of shifting sands

And moody tides of the seasons

Of whorling, turbulent waves

 Of the mighty oceans

Violent events

Turning tragically upon

So many little lives

Lost in the dark depths

Buried in a nameless watery grave

Of the sea's foamy bowels

Broken bloated bodies

Left carelessly amidst

Flotsam and jetsam

Cast adrift in random currents

Caught forever

Between land and sea

Unfathomable

Are the all the many

 Hopes and the dreams

Of childhood and innocence

Dashed in an instant

Of one mighty moment

Voices of pain and suffering

Rising from every corner

Of every sinew and fiber

And every broken bone

The world's body as one

Dashed upon the rocks

And then drowned

 In jealous, raging seas

Intemperate and Angry

Unfathomable

The signs and designs

Comings and goings

And mysterious ways

Of many, many ghosts

And drifting, errant spirits

So many random souls lost

Who now must forlorn

Wander the twisted shoreline

Forever stuck

Between heaven and earth

Their feet caught in the mud and muck

Between tides, sun and rain

The crabs, the mud-skippers, the blood worms

The monitors, snakes and the small snails

They feast and fete

Scavenge and ravage

As the ghosts call and cry

Beckoning

Upon the shifting winds

Entreaties

Drowned by the crashing waves
