Heaven Cries and Earth Yields
Cold
Rain drops
From blank
Gray sullen skies
Falling earthbound
In staccato rhythm
Over a cold damp room
The dripping resonates
In a soft symphony
The wind chants a choral hymn
As leaves rustle about a cacophonous rhyme
Earth resounds in splashing harmonies
Spirits treading softly by
Two-by-two and in single file
Drifting upon the edge of fitful
Sleepless dreams
Haunting the dark recesses of the morning tide
Dancing
Rain spirits
Upon the rooftop
Rain spirits
Rushing, gushing
Splashing and dashing
To the lowest possible places
Heaven is crying
The earth is swelling
Nature weeps
Swept about
Like so much sand
Life awaits renewal
As the world is cleansed
Heaven Weeps
As Earth yields up
Its sacred sacrifices
Burnt offerings
Released from the bonds of earth
Thousands
Of Spirit Ghosts
Left to wander the earth
Soon to be released
From their corporeal tethers
One cannot guess all the ways
Between heaven and earth
Earth protests
And heaven answers
With
Spirits
Lost and found
In paper spirit boats
Adrift between
The Gods respond in ways
Arbitrary and contrary
As spirit-ghosts drift about aimlessly
Searching for a way back to homes and arms
For which there are no returns
Desperate calls
From far way and long, long ago
Bring back nothing but the muffled silence
In the pitter-patter of the rain
