Part 5
A Strategy of Peace
A strategy for the future must plan decisively for peace. This is a precondition to its success. It must not be a temporary and indefinite peace arising from precarious balances of terror, but a permanent and definite peace built on mutual trust and common faith in world humanity. Before any such permanent condition of peace can be effectively maintained the social disease of militarism must be eradicated. The concepts of weapons and warfare must become obsolete and forgotten to the human vocabulary, nonexistent within the philosophical foundations of the future. The eradication of militarism will require both the devolution of aggression and the further reoriented evolution of technological civilization. A perfect state of peace will probably never be attainable but a realistic future with a very close resemblance to this ideal can and must be sought for in all our strategic preparations.
