Strategic-Philosophical Constructs

by Hugh M. Lewis

Strategic systems analysis are part of advanced systems research. They are central to the entire functional integration of the system because they define and refine, amend and adapt the goal structures of the entire system toward the achievement of specific and general objectives.

The starting point I believe is to identify worthwhile goals in the long range and intermediary and immediate goals that can be lined up toward the achievement of long term goals. The challenge of this is that we cannot predict the nature of the outcomes at almost step. We cannot know with certainty that the steps we take will take us closer to our goals, or remove us further from them.

Inherent unpredictability

Ethical & Strategic Ambiguity

I suggest that there is a clear set of core principles underlying strategic systems that can be understood in the following way:

Indirect Approach

Systems Optimization

Systems Development

Implementational Strategies

The basis of all strategic systems analysis are:

research & reconnaissance

complex problem analysis and identification

cost-risk analysis

alternative solutions analysis

goal identification & analysis

Encounter approach & system streamlining

We may picture a paradigm of the following sort:

Ultimate-Initial

Long-Term

Intermediate

Immediate

Proximate-Initial

Problem Analysis

Solution Analysis

Applied Analysis

Applied Analysis

extra-terrestrial

global

inter-regional

regional

local

individual

This entire structure can be seen as itself a feedback system, as a database where the final output values feedback to initial input values.

We can speak of systems of systems.
