Inferential Construction

Inferential construction refers to the development of structural hypothesis that guides understanding about the nature of a particular problem set. Such construction is largely hypothetical until it is tested and refined through experiment and trial and error in field contexts. To a large degree, development of inferences about relational patterns and outcomes of event structures can be made systematic through research controls and attention to research procedures. Drawing inferences in a deliberate manner can provide us a critical check on making and deploying inferences in an implicit or unintentional way that may in the long run prove harmful to the outcomes of an undertaking.
